Strudl helps people ask sensitive questions, collect reported responses and interpret survey results. These terms explain the responsibilities of the operator identified above ("we", "us") and people who create or respond to surveys ("you").
You must be at least 18 to use this version of Strudl. If you act for an organization, you must have authority to do so. Creating an account or survey requires acceptance of these terms. Respondents see these terms, the Privacy Notice and any details supplied by the creator before separately consenting to participation. If you do not agree, do not create an account, publish a survey or submit responses.
2. What protected responses mean
For a protected question, your browser applies the survey's random-change rule before sending the resulting reported answer to Strudl. Strudl receives and stores that reported answer, not a separate record of the answer originally selected. A reported answer may be the same as, or different from, your selection. For an ordinary question, or a question with no effective random change, the reported answer is your selected answer.
This mechanism does not guarantee anonymity or make identification impossible. Question wording, the size and circumstances of a group, information held by a survey creator, and device or network records can affect privacy. A private management link also grants access to survey management and data to anyone who holds it. Read the survey's explanation and consider the context before answering.
Results estimate patterns under the survey's assumptions. Random variation, small samples, selective participation, misleading questions and inaccurate answers can make estimates uncertain or unrepresentative. Strudl does not determine what a particular person believes or establish that an allegation is true. A statistical estimate is not proof about an individual.
3. Responsibilities of survey creators
You are responsible for the questions you publish, whom you invite, the reason for collecting responses, and how you use or share the results. In particular:
- Explain the survey's purpose, who will receive the results, whether participation is voluntary, and how participants can raise concerns. Do not promise stronger protection than the survey and its circumstances provide.
- This version supports voluntary participation based on informed consent. Do not use it where consent cannot be freely given or where an appropriate lawful basis or special-category condition has not been established. Obtain the permissions, privacy notices and institutional approvals your use requires; a checkbox or Strudl template is not a substitute.
- Avoid names, contact details and other direct identifiers in questions or answer choices. Do not ask for passwords, financial account credentials or government identification numbers.
- Do not coerce participation, retaliate against a person for participating or declining, try to identify a respondent, or pressure someone to confirm which answer they originally selected.
- Keep management links, account access and exports secure. Share only with people authorized for the stated survey purpose. Consider whether publishing results about a small group would reveal information about individuals.
- Do not treat individual reported answers as factual admissions or use them to make employment, disciplinary, eligibility, insurance or clinical decisions about a person. Do not present aggregate estimates as a sufficient basis, on their own, for consequential decisions about individuals.
Depending on your activities and applicable law, you or your organization may have separate obligations for the personal information involved. These terms do not determine every party's legal role or replace a required data-processing agreement. Do not use Strudl for a purpose requiring such an agreement or specific regulatory arrangements until those arrangements are actually in place.
4. Participation and sensitive subjects
Respondents do not need a Strudl account. You may choose not to start a survey or stop answering. Stopping does not erase reported answers already submitted. Use your private withdrawal link to withdraw consent and delete your reported answers from the live service. Whether particular questions can be skipped depends on the survey design.
Strudl's mental-health, burnout and postpartum templates are general discussion and support tools. They are not diagnoses, clinical assessments, medical advice or validated screening instruments unless expressly identified as such with appropriate supporting information. Strudl does not monitor responses for emergencies, identify people needing urgent help, or promise that a survey creator will respond. If you need urgent help, contact an appropriate local emergency or crisis service directly.
5. Accounts, invitations and access
You can create surveys without an account. An optional account keeps your surveys available across sessions and devices. Use an email address you control for that account and keep access to it secure. Do not share account credentials or sign-in codes. Tell us promptly if you believe someone has obtained unauthorized access. We may require evidence of control before changing account access, and cannot promise to restore an account when that control cannot be established.
Survey creation is subject to usage limits. Sharing Strudl or receiving an invitation is not an endorsement of a creator or their surveys. Neither creators nor respondents need an invitation under the current public-creation policy.
Private management links are independent access credentials. Account recovery or signing out does not automatically invalidate a management link someone has saved. Creator drafts and remembered links may also remain in your browser until you remove them. Use particular care on shared devices.
6. Your content and our permission to operate the service
You retain whatever rights you have in your survey content. You confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed to submit it and use it for the survey's purpose. You give us a non-exclusive permission to host, reproduce, process and display that content as reasonably necessary to provide the service to its intended users, maintain security, and meet applicable legal obligations.
We do not acquire ownership of your content through these terms. Strudl's name, branding and service materials remain subject to their applicable intellectual property rights and any separately stated licenses. Third-party materials and linked resources remain subject to their own terms.
7. Acceptable use
Do not use Strudl for unlawful activity, harassment, threats, discrimination, deception about who operates a survey, or infringement of others' rights. Do not use it to expose private information about others without an appropriate lawful basis. Do not sell or publish private management credentials.
Do not deliberately falsify participation, flood the service or a person's inbox, bypass access or rate limits, interfere with randomization, or attempt unauthorized access to accounts, systems or data. Research involving real users or production systems requires permission appropriate to its scope. Report suspected security problems privately through the contact address above; do not include other people's private survey data in a report.
8. Survey lifetime, data and exports
Respondent links currently expire 24 hours after publication. A creator may close a survey earlier. Expiry stops new collection; it does not automatically delete the survey or its previously collected data. Results and management access may remain available after the respondent link expires.
The Privacy Notice must explain the information we process, retention, service providers and applicable privacy rights. These terms do not replace that notice. Do not assume that account deletion, link expiry or stopping participation deletes every survey record or an export held by someone else.
Contact us about access, correction or deletion requests. Creators can delete a survey from its private management page; respondents can use their private withdrawal link. Because respondents are not identified through accounts, we may be unable to reliably associate a particular reported response with you. We will handle requests under applicable law; this limitation does not waive rights you may have. Copies already exported or shared by a creator are subject to that recipient's responsibilities.
9. Availability, changes and ending access
Strudl is an early service. Features and limits may change, and maintenance or outages may interrupt access. We do not promise uninterrupted availability, error-free estimates or permanent storage. Keep appropriate authorized backups of material you need, while respecting participants' privacy.
We may restrict a survey or account when reasonably necessary to address misuse, security risks, legal obligations or material breaches of these terms. Where practicable and legally permitted, we will explain the reason and provide a way to contact us about a mistake. Urgent risks may require action before notice. You may stop using the service and contact us about closing your account.
We will give reasonable notice of material service discontinuation where practicable. If paid services are introduced, their price and applicable terms must be presented before you agree to pay; these terms do not authorize an unexpected charge.
10. Responsibility and legal rights
You are responsible for your own use of the service and your own content. We do not guarantee that Strudl will be suitable for every purpose, that a template meets your legal or professional requirements, or that a creator's interpretation of results is correct.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the service is provided without additional warranties, and we exclude liability for indirect or consequential losses such as lost profits arising from use of the service. Nothing in these terms excludes liability or limits remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including applicable consumer protections. Nothing requires you to waive rights concerning fraud, intentional misconduct or other non-excludable matters.
If a dispute arises, contact us so that we can try to resolve it. These Terms do not impose mandatory arbitration, a class-action waiver or an exclusive court location. Your applicable statutory rights remain unaffected.
11. Updates and contact
We will identify each published version and its effective date. Material changes will be brought to your attention before they take effect where required, with renewed agreement when needed. Changes will not retroactively authorize a new use of data or remove rights that already apply.

Operator processing disclosure
Propect Works LLC uses Render for application hosting and PostgreSQL storage in Virginia, United States. On the Hobby workspace, Render retains application logs for seven days and provides a three-day point-in-time database recovery window. Any logical database exports created through Render are retained there for seven days. Deleting information from the live service does not immediately erase provider backups.
We use Resend to deliver account and invitation email through its United States sending region. Resend processes recipient addresses, message content and delivery information, with 30-day email data retention on our plan. These messages do not contain survey responses. Mail you send to admin@strudl.io is handled through Porkbun's hosted email service; keep individual answers, private survey links and sign-in codes out of support messages. We retain support correspondence as needed to resolve and document the request and meet applicable legal obligations. Provider security, billing and legally required records follow the providers' own policies and may have different retention periods.
We process account information to provide the service you request, operational security information for our legitimate interest in preventing misuse and protecting the service, and records required by applicable legal obligations. Survey participation uses the separate consent described in this notice; creators remain responsible for the purposes and use of their surveys. Render and Resend publish data-processing addenda incorporating Standard Contractual Clauses and UK transfer provisions for relevant international transfers. Provider processing and support may take place in the United States and other countries identified in their subprocessor disclosures.
Send privacy, account, security and other Strudl requests to admin@strudl.io. Describe the request without including individual answers or access credentials. We may request proportionate evidence of account control before making account changes. For reported answers, use your private withdrawal link or contact the survey creator about their exported copies. We respond under the deadlines and rights applicable to the request. Contact us for information about provider safeguards or to raise a concern.
